-it is located in the north-eastern corner of africa bordered by the mediterranien sea to the north ,the sudan to the south ,libya to the west , and the red sea ,the south-western cornor of asi to the east .

-the sands and the rocky mountains of sahara cover the country and it is only broken by occasional oases and asingel river .

the nile

the ancient egyptians had no special name for the nile called it "Itru " the river or "itru c3" the great river .

-our word nile is drived from the greek word "neilos" and it is not known where the greeks found that word

- however it is said that ancient egyptians called the nile "na- itru" the greeks said it " nailu" then neilos.

- the nile flowing from lake victoria it drains in the mediterraneen.

-that river provides life to the people, plants and animals.

-it divided egypt to two differnt environmevts of life and death

-so the ancient egyptiens called "kemet" the black land and desert "the redland"desert

-egypt is not divided only to the vally and the desert but the narrow valley is divided into two different branches creating afertile plain called delta by the greeks.

- the ancient egyptians called themselves " remet-en-kemet" and thier language "medet-remet-en-kemet" speech of the pepole of egypt.

- the ancient government of egypt divided the land into "ta shema" the land of the shema reed ,ta-mehu the land of the papyrus that is the delta or lower egypt.

- they used the river as aking of transportation from north to south and south to north that explained why they made little use of wheeled vehicles even after their introduction from western asia.

- the vally consisted of two different sections anarrower band of fields and abrancheof the nile called the bahr yossef.

-but delta doesnot enjoy the same unity as the vally as it consisted of two different branches and that affected on demonistrating this area ,their were conflict between families and that led to foreign occupation .

- the long distance of the valley stands against the centrlized control afforded by the river .

- valley and delta can be controlled at the point where they meet north of the modern capital cairo .

- befor the foundation of that city 969 a.d south of it stands the islamic capital "fustat".

- further south on the opposite bank of the river stand memphis and acted as the capital of egypt during the middle kingdom.

-Ist tawy acted as the capital during middle kingdom.

- In the new kingdom and late period retained its importance hence they called memphis "mekhattawy" balance of the two lands, and called the memphite cemeteries "ankh tawy "life of the two lands.

- there were three instititions affected on pharonic civilization inb-hedj, "the white wall," hutnub goldsite or royal workshops and dockyards.
